Link Building Methods
Link building is the primary way to get your website ranked in search engines, especially in Google. Search engines are on a democratic system in which links are equivalent to votes. When someone links to your website, they are essentially giving you a single vote. The following are some link building methods and an explanation of how they work.
Anchor Text Links
The best kind of links you can get are those with an anchor text that is a keyword that you are going after. If your main keyword is “blue widgets”, the best links you can get are those with an anchor text with those words in it. It is also best to have the links embedded in the body of a paragraph.
There are some reasons why these are the best links. First of all, having an anchor text tells search engines which keyword the website is giving you a vote for. If it’s just a hyperlink, search engines will give you a ‘point’ for that, but won’t know which keywords to assign that point to.
Another reason these are great links to have is because they appear natural and it looks like someone is clearly going out of their way to point people to your website. If your link appears on the sidebar or footer of a webpage, that is still a valuable link. But Google knows that those links are just an afterthought. When Google sees your link within the main body of a page, it knows that the writer feels like it’s the most important link on that page.
Guest Writing on Authority Websites
All websites have different authority levels. Authority is the measure of how important Google thinks a website is. With Google the pagerank is what indicates authority levels. With link building, not all links are equal. A link from a high authority website is weighed a lot more than a low authority website.
The best way to get a link from an authority website is to simply write a piece of content for that site and asking the owner if you could guest post it on his site. Then in the body of your content, but an anchor text link. This is called trading content for links. Google is okay with this on the most part as long as the content is original and of high quality.
There are many link building methods out there, including ones that don’t work or may even hurt your search engine ranking. These are just a couple of ways to get quality links that Google and other search engines will like and will promote you for.
